For the second straight year, Universal Technical Institute (UTI) teams up with Hot Rod magazine and Q Motor Oil to bring you the custom-designed thrills of the 2007 UTI/Hot Rod U Q Collegiate Power Challenge. Crews of technician students from five UTI automotive campuses will compete to build the best racecar on budget and on deadline. With each team starting out with similar salvaged cars, new engines and parts catalogs – leaving nothing but their dedication, ingenuity and technician skills to separate themselves from the pack. The UTI teams have taken on the challenge of not just restoring these junkers to their former glory but turning them into tricked-out hot rods ready to race against each other in October 2007.
The contest culminates in a head-to-head showdown on a real race track in events like;
- Quarter-mile performance
- 60-0 mph braking
- 600-foot slalom
- Rear-wheel horsepower
- A fit-and-finish inspection.
